Dr. Allison Edgar

Principal Investigator

I am an organismal biologist who integrates development, evolution, and ecology to study the life histories of invertebrate animals. I am interested in the strategies that animals use to develop, grow, mature, reproduce, and (sometimes) regenerate. Particularly, I am interested in how some of the earliest-branching animals’ ability to reproduce and regenerate are influenced by environmental factors, and how their gene expression is regulated to produce these outcomes.

Orianna Duh

Lab Technician

As a lab technician in the Edgar lab, I am excited to discover new information about ctenophore development and life cycles, as well as development in general and how evolution influences development and vice versa. Similarly, getting to work with women in STEM in a woman-run lab is an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait to share our findings with both the scientific and local communities.

Yinghui Wang

PhD Student

I am a second-year PhD student in the Edgar lab with a passion for evolution and development of marine invertebrates (especially the squishy ones). Currently, I am studying the morphological changes from cydippid to lobate body plan in Mnemiopsis leidyi and the potential behavioral changes accompanying it.

Elias Joseph

PhD Student

I am a first-year PhD student in the Edgar lab broadly interested in how the vast diversity of animal life came to be. My interest is more specifically in the evolution of early-branching animals and the closest relatives of animals. Currently, I am studying the fertilization envelope and working to sequence ctenophore germ line cells.

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am a third-year undergraduate biology student in the NJIT Albert Dorman Honors College.
Some of my hobbies include crocheting, puzzling, and hanging out with friends.

Magy Hanna

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I’m a third-year biology BA major at NJIT in the Albert Dorman Honors College, minoring in psychology. After graduating, I plan to pursue a career in the healthcare field.

Stephen Junger

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am a third-year Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology major in an undergraduate biomedical PhD program. I love to try out many things and have been fascinated with biology/chemistry for a while. I hope to bring new perspectives into this lab with my computer logic knowledge!

Jesse Navarrete

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am a third-year Environmental Science major, and I am the Vice President of NJIT’s American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) student chapter. I got introduced to this lab through a course I was taking near the end of my sophomore year, and have continued working here since. I plan to pursue a career in wildlife conservation.

Uma Wadawadigi

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am a first-year Biology major in the BS/MD program. After graduating I plan to pursue a career in the medical field. In my free time I enjoy playing the piano and hanging out with my dog!

Austin Choi

Undergraduate Research Assistant

I am a first year biology major in the Honors College and I plan to go to medical school after NJIT. In my free time I like to take pictures, spend time with friends and family, and read philosophy.
